'WoW,' haven't we had enough already?

Abstract:
Growing up in the world today can be a tumultuous time. Children are offered a number of potentially harmful choices, like free 10-day "World of Warcraft" trials. As a former user (after all, college is the time for experimentation), I can safely say that "World of Warcraft" is not for me. ...

Generalizations as a general rule are never a good idea. I and everyone I know that plays this game lead full and productive lives outside of the virtual world. One of those players is my wife and we enjoy our time together in the game. Another friend of mine works 2 jobs at a restaurant and playing is his way to unwind much the same as watching television or reading a book may be someone else's. So, to generalize and say that WoW is nothing but, "pimply teeny-boppers to pimply 40-year-old basementdwellers" is an insult to a high percentage of the nearly 10 million players who enjoy this game. As far as "has grabbed a generation of the world's youth and has turned them from the neighborhood rascal to a power leveler" would you rather today's youth go back to the hay day of petty theft, burglaries, gang violence, etc.? It's about self control and in the case of minors its about parental control. So, please refrain from attacking a group of people by generalizing them to be all the same.

Sounds like the author got killed one too many times by Hogger.

So apparently WoW is taboo now? I guess I'll have to pick up a more socially acceptable hobby. Like drugs, or alcohol abuse! Surely those habits are better since bloggers aren't writing posts warning the public against them.
