Should we convert into a nudist society?

Abstract:
Patrick de Man of Hetera, Netherlands, is striking a blow for civil rights. Owner of Fitworld Gym, de Man recently announced that starting March 4, his facility will offer "Naked Sunday" for those who wish to exercise sans clothing, according to a Yahoo! News story. I say we take de Man's lead one step further....

Hi,
My name is Tom Mulhall. My wife and I own a nudist resort in Palm Springs, CA called The Terra Cotta Inn. We are experts in this area.

This is a cute article you wrote. Your subject is slowly becoming true. Over in Europe it is not called a nudist society, because going clothes free is considered normal.

Last year, 1 in 7 Germans vacationed at a nudist resort. A recent survey showed that 40% of Italian women topless sunbathe. All beaches in Spain are topless with many nude. In Barcelona, there are clothing free neighborhoods where it is legal to walk, bicycle, etc in the nude. Cap D'Agde in France is a city where there will be 40,000-50,000 people nude in the summer. You can even go into the banks or police station in the nude.

Slowly, North Americans are catching on. In Vancouver, it just became legal for women to go topfree.

Nudist resorts in America are now upscale. We are one of the most popular hotels in Palm Springs. In Las Vegas some of the hotels have European sunbathing pools (topless).

The major reason nude recreation is becoming so popular is it is very relaxing being nude. That is why so many celebrities in high stress jobs nude or topless sunbathe and are nude in their homes.

As a society becomes more mature in their culture, they accept nudity as being no big deal. As a western country, the US is behind Europe, but slowly catching on in the accepatance of nudism.

As a recent Roper poll showed, 25% of Americans have gone skinny dipping in mixed company.

You should try nude sunbathing, you will probably like it too (if you haven't already).

Good luck to you. Tom

P.S. My sister in law graduated from Western. My wife and I are Illini.

I commend the writer. Americans need to understand others including naturists (which according to USA Today number abut18% of the American public (though most haven't come out of the closet). Over 39% of the public under 39 years of age would try a nudist venue if one were available.

From a Christian perspective, Naturism is quite normal The late Pope John Paul II has written beautifully on the subject as he grew up in Poland where naturism is/was quite common.

The Anglican Church in England published an ethic series in 2000 in which it concluded that more Christians ought to be naturists.

Natura Fellowship (a non-denominational Christian group) is developing a naturist community now. Naturism does not equal sex. We are designing our community to be attractive to families as well as others and it will be open to all without regard to religious faith so long as persons support non-sexual nudity.

More information can be found on the largest faith based website in the world (run from England), www.naturist-christians.org (but owned by us in the US).

I think that nude masses are in order. Hey if the pope is behind it , why not.

This is complete garbage. If people want to live in a naturist world, let them form one of their own and keep their disgusting nakedness away from decent folks. As for the claim that these people are discriminated against, well we also 'discriminate' against others who want to make our society a less pleasant place to live like those who want to have sex in public or urinate in the street. After all, sex and urinating are perfectly natural things but, just like nudity, they have their time and place. And as for being born naked, so what? Are we supposed to stay the whole of our lives in the state we were at birth? Incontinent, lack of language skills, unable to take care of ourselves? Get real!

John,

I think you have issues with your own body. It seems to me that you are unhappy with it and therefore are against public nudity. If you had a bod, you would want to show it off like all of us with the perfect bodies do at Christian Naturists. Yes, we are followers of Christ and we love nudity.

It is obvious to me that this man (named John), who is so against naturism and naturists, has little to no education of any sort. To begin with, when God created man, He created us in His image and after His likeness, male and female, and then he called it very good. Adam and his wife were naked and unashamed. This was the original intent of the Creator - being naked and unashamed. (Read Genesis 1:26-31). Then, in Isaiah 5:20, we read, "Woe to him who calls evil good and good evil..." Read both passages! What God calls good we are NOT to call evil, in any way, shape of form. In Titus 1:15, it says, "Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled." Christ Jesus restored us to our prelapsarian condition (pre-fall). Our wonderful Savior was born naked, baptized naked, was scourged naked, crucified naked, and when he left the tomb, He folded His grave clothes neatly, setting them aside. As the Second Adam, He would NEVER be encumbered by the garments of men again. This, I believe, is His intent for all of us: to be redeemed from the garments of this world, and to embrace, as at the beginning of creation, the garments God gave to us - our naked and unashamed bodies. The wearing of the garments of men, in the dispensations after the Fall, was only intended to protect our bodies from the elements of nature that had so radically changed at the Fall of Man. They were not intended to hide the masterpieces of God. He had originally designed them for public viewing, and not to be hidden from sight.

For those who have ears to hear, let them hear what the Spirit of God is saying to the churches! As for you, John, I hope God leads you to repentance for calling God's masterpiece ugly.

In Spain currently there is no law against nudity in public places, a recent trial was dropped when a citizen was taken to court for being nude in a public place. Many local councillors try it on, making local by-laws to prohibit nudism in public but are always beaten, the law is the law and citizens rights prevail!
Nudism in Spain is one more of our rights and privileges maybe Europe should look more towards the old world rather the new so called land of the free!

People who are so narrow minded to think that simple natural nudity is obscene are really saying what they have been taught by their narrow minded parents, piers and society in general.

America should certainly convert to a nudist society very soon. All laws against public nudity must be repealed. People are not their clothes; they are their naked bodies. If everyone were happier naked, the world will be a much better place to leave. If everyone were happier naked, people will accept themselves and each other as they really are, and they will be judged by personality rather than by looks. If everyone were happier naked, crime and violence will be all but non-existent, and prisons will not be needed. No man would hit a naked woman. People are more open-minded when naked than when clothed. People are less conservative about their personal space when naked than when clothed. Nudism allows people to be their true selves. Women should realize that there is freedom in nudity. Nudity is freedom from a culture that tells us what a perfect body should look like, and it is freedom from the need to feel like people should look a certain way. Nudism allows women to experience the joy of true womanhood. It is not about sexuality. It is about freedom, acceptance, open-mindedness, self-esteem, and self-confidence. If America converts to a nudist society, all social walls will come down immediately.

Nudism is not Immoral or Indecent, Even Pope John Paul II said so in His book entitled: Love and Responsibility (1981), he wrote: Nakedness itself is not immodest...
Me I sleep this way, The only time I need clothing is when I go outside or when My shoulders hurt(OA), Nudism isn't related to sex and shouldn't be, Children aren't hurt by this as no body is that horrid, We are being denied equal treatment under the law as Our collective Civil Rights are being violated cause of Religious Discrimination here in the USA.
