I don't think that law enforcement will motivate students to lower the binge drinking level. We need another more personal approach, these young people need to understand alcohol consequences, they need to understand that alcohol affects them on many levels.

This article just chases its tail. It is trying to justify underage drinking by talking about all the supposedly responsible people that drink underage. While there may be students that are able to drink at whatever age and not get in trouble, the truth is, if they are breaking the law and drinking underage, they are not being responsible for that fact alone. If they knowingly risk being ticketed or jailed, that's not very responsible in the first place.

And far more importantly, I don't give a damn to be honest what other deeper "issues" those who get drunk and then vandalize or cause disturbances have. The truth is, probably a majority of these people causing these problems, whether they have issues or not, would not be doing these things, or at least not to the degree they are doing it, if they were sober. And I'd also like to add that it isn't only underage drinkers who are causing problems, those 21 and over are doing it too. I usually hate to simplify things and put things in a black and white context, but in this case, it's warranted. Getting drunk = lower inhibitions = less ability to think of others = doing stupid things you wouldn't do while sober.

I think a lot of the problem is students coming to WIU who are woefully immature and irresponsible even for their young age. Narcissism also plays a big role in this. Behavior I have seen in my own neighborhood bears this out...I am appalled at the behavior of 20-21 year olds that are acting like junior high kids and it gets a lot worse when they drink.

That looks like lots of fun. When I was in college we didn't had so many fun activities.

Well they party hard at WIU!!! I am a recent graduate (DEC) and that was all we did but my friends and colleagues never damaged property walking home; maybe stubbed a toe or almost gotten run over by a car (accidents...) oh yea there was that lady that lived on the corner of Adams. Her fence was always getting kicked or knocked down, but other than that there wasn't much to holler about. The whistle blowers of Macomb may in fact just be concerned about the student body, but college students are going to party no matter what.
