Durbin lashes out at Bush

Abstract:
Western Illinois University Board of Trustees Secretary Bob Cook introduced Dick Durbin to a packed room at the Old Dairy Tuesday by asking the audience if they had read the Peoria Journal Star that morning. Those in the audience who had read the paper responded with a good chuckle....

And where is Mr. Durbin's criticism of his master, Bill Clinton, who pardoned 147 - yes, 147 - people and commutated the sentences of a further 38?

And where does Mr. Turbin...er, Durbin, get off talking about twisting the constitution? This coming from the man and party which says the constitution doesn't REALLY grant the right to bear arms, or to acknowledge God in public schools.

Classic liberals - do as I say, not as I do. And of course, Illinoisans swallow it down loyally as always. No wonder we live in the most corrupt state in the union.

I can understand pardoning someone who committed a relatively minor offense decades ago as long as, in the interim, they've been upstanding citizens and have contributed to or served society in some way. But this list is looking pretty ridiculous. What is the point?

On the other hand, we've also seen that there are many people - even on death row - who were actually not guilty of the crime (shown by forensic testing not available earlier). Many have been released, but I'm sure there's plenty more.

Think our justice system needs a bit of an overhaul?

slager 85,

Don't you know that you're in a Democratic backed forum here? Tim is probably the Democratic Party Chair for McDonough County and Bob Cook is a past Chair. But I'll bat for you! The Democratic Party can't do any better in Congress than they're doing in our own General Assembly!!! We really got screwed in the last Illinois election, especially with Governor Goofy, as the Peoria Journal Star calls him. Liberalism.........it's got Illinois by the throat and we're going to pay a heavy price for-wait and see. Senator Turbin is just another Taliban fighter in our Congress. There are several....most carry a (D) identifier. ("D" is for dumb.)

Hey Durbin how about invasion USA? I see you voted not to secure our borders and to allow millions of illegal aliens the right to live amongst us while folks applying for a visa the legal way sit in their countries for years. Durbin as a tax payer I demand you secure our borders and enforce the existing laws on the book. This means you don't let illegals in and you fine and jail their employers. The the rest will get the message and leave when there is no employer that will hire them.

Agreed. The videos that have been circulating online of crazy repulican supporters have really damaged them. There are tons of intelligent, forward-thinking republicans, but the current campaign has really turned off a lot of people.

Those who believe in the way things should be, as told in the Holy Bible. What's stupid, is the Democratic Party masquerading as the champion of the working class in the USA. They devalue life, promote the killing of innocent unborn children, hate the Pledge of Allegiance, don't want the Ten Commandments to be seen and even want any type of prayer/moment of silence time to be removed from schools and school property. A total demoralization of America! That's the new Democratic Party, not the old Democratic Party. Oh, and don't forget about disarming Americans..they're all about that, too!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for the list, should I believe that Bush has a thing for drug dealers? I don't know about his judgment but it must be pretty hard to decide who's going out and who stays behind bars. As far as I am concerned I have no mercy for drug smugglers, I think any parent who worries about his child's exposure to drugs thinks likewise.

None of this matters. You can argue the same thing between Clinton, Bush, and probably most other Presidents. It is a privilege reserved for the President. You can criticize Bush all day but you can also criticize the Clinton for the criminals he set free. A lot of them personal associates of himself, business partners, an family members. Either criticize fairly or quit crying about it. Any President of any color can pardon anyone they please.

Yes, Tim Frier has all the answers! He doesn't do anything but sit in his little retreat (west side of Macomb) and do nothing but political crap. I can't believe the local Democratic Party still allows him to be their chief after he spent time with a known Peoria hooker and she stole a credit card belonging to the McDonough County Democratic Party!! What an embarrassment!! At least to someone with some morals, anyway. "D" is definately for Dumocrat and if Democrats had any brains...they'd be Republicans. Dick Durbin...what an idiot! Just give our country away, fool! Him and people like Nancy Pelosi don't really care about Americans. They just want to get elected and reelected to line their own pockets. Jerks!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have to feel sorry for the whole bunch, they live in such agonizing fear. Oh my, what it must be like to be as a small woodland creature so scared, so terrified ... too afraid to rest for even a moment. Well, I've some news for all of you Republicans: Be careful, they're everywhere, they're out to get you ... oh no, look ... there's one now ... quick, run, hide !!!

Hey, Frank.....contrary to your belief, most of us real Republicans would rather stand our ground than run like the cowards I've seen in the Democratic Party. Real Republicans, you see, are traditionally conservative people whose beliefs are grounded in a biblical sense and we see things as they once used to be...honesty, integrity, forthright. As an example: a man's handshake was once his "bond". A contract for anything would never be necessary because he could be trusted to "follow-up" and be a man and do what is right...much unlike the turn-tails of today; many, of which, side with the Democratic Party in their political realm. Can you say the name Rod Blagojevich? There's a real example of what I could not be!! How 'bout you? I don't know where you get off with a stupid statement, such as the one you posted.

Come on, This is not a forum for debating if this is a Democratic bastion. This is whether Bush or Clinton took their jobs more seriously than the other. Obviously, Clinton felt that the system had slighted more individuals than the incoming administration does. Basically, Bush didn't want to take responsibility for letting anybody go, like Clinton did. I bet if you look and see who each of them pardoned, it would be skewed towards people with political clout with Bush more than with Clinton.

Clinton was one of my favorite presidents, and I believe he meant to do the best he could. Bush probably did his best as well, but he left a mess.
