Late rally comes up short

A late rally by the Western Illinois men's soccer team was not enough to overcome a two-goal deficit for the Leathernecks, as they lost to Drake 2-1 in the first round of the College Cup.

The 'Necks fell behind early allowing Drake to score two quick goals in just the first 10 minutes of play.

The Western Illinois men's basketball team (1-2) held off Truman State (1-1) with a 71-59 victory Wednesday night.

The victory was the Leathernecks' sixth-consecutive home-opening win.

Western looking for first Valley victory

Western Illinois faces No. 12 ranked South Dakota State this Saturday at Hanson Field for its season finale.

The Leathernecks stumbled at No. 11 Northern Iowa last weekend, losing 34-0. Redshirt freshman quarterback Wil Lunt completed 9-of-20 passes for 60 yards against the Panthers.

Women's basketball follows win with trip to Wichita State

After picking up its first win of the season, the Western Illinois women's basketball team (1-1, 0-0) plays at Wichita State (0-1, 0-0) tonight.

Western is coming off a big win against Northern Illinois last Tuesday, after losing to Purdue earlier in the week.
