Who's your Buddy?
With emotion and sincerity, Buddy Jewell entertained fans at Western Hall with his heartfelt country hits. An Arkansas native, Jewell stopped in Macomb on April 30 before kicking off a summer tour consisting primarily of fairs and festivals. The 44-year-old singer/guitarist has been in the music business for decades, but gained national recognition in 2003 after winning the first "Nashville Star" competition, country's version of "American Idol.… Post the First Comment

Students ham it up at Western Idol

Students ham it up at Western Idol
With the promise of karaoke, the sun decided to make an appearance on a nearly cloudless Wednesday afternoon. Yet, for the third annual Western Idol contest, the student performers came away as the true bright and shining stars. In the free speech area behind the Western Illinois University Union, a meager gathering of students and faculty began to form at about noon.… Post the First Comment

Sin City

Movie Review
Grade: A "Sin City" is a film made in the classic film noir style, which incorporates subtleties that add to the dimensions of the film and allow the motion picture to consume the viewer in the unfolding plot. Elements such as the thick, raspy narration of Marv, played by an unrecognizable Mickey Rourke, add to the development of the story and only enhance the other subtle nuances of the film.… Post the First Comment

XXX: State of the Union

Movie Review
Grade: C In "XXX: State of the Union," Ice Cube proves to be a much better actor than Vin Diesel. But looking at Ice Cube perform extreme action moves is a constant reminder that this is just a movie. And although Ice Cube's acting skills were better serviced for this sequel, the movie still lacked an interesting and believable storyline.… Post the First Comment

Dig!

Movie Review
Grade: B+ Sex and drugs have become synonymous with the ever-changing genre of rock 'n' roll over the years. The recent rock documentary "Dig!" has made that statement truer than ever before. "Dig!" follows two rock bands, The Dandy Warhols and The Brian Jonestown Massacre over a span of seven years.… Post the First Comment

Nine Inch Nails "With Teeth"

Album Review
Grade: A "With Teeth" begins sweetly and softly. Intricate drum rhythms take shape over the subtle yet audibly distressed voice of Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor. Something must be wrong. There is a sense of being lulled into a false sense of security just as the pace quickens and Reznor demands, "Why do you get all the love in the world?" This contrast builds with the tearing opening of the second track of the first NIN CD in more than five years.… Post the First Comment
