The Western Illinois men's tennis team had its three-match winning streak ended after losing to Illinois State, 6-1, at Evergreen Racquet Club Saturday.

"We played a tough team today," said assistant coach Mike Fenwick. "We are not quite at the summit of our game yet, but when we are, I feel we will pull out some of these close matches."

The Leathernecks' (3-2) lone singles win came from senior Martin Boström. He defeated Nuno Jacinto at the No. 2 singles position, 7-6 (7-5), 3-1, retired, to improve his singles record to 3-0 this spring and 8-0 on the 2007-2008 season.

The team of Boström and junior Sean Ragee-Nelson at No. 2 doubles defeated Daniel Tobar and Filip Miljevic, 8-3. It was the pair's first match together this spring.

Junior Zach Frisch and Ragee-Nelson each battled the Redbirds (5-3) to a third set tiebreaker but dropped their singles matches in the decisive tiebreaker.

Western returns to competition Sunday at 10 a.m., as it hosts Southern Illinois at the Leathernecks' home indoor facility at Lakeside Racquet Club in Galesburg, Ill.
