Allen places 12th, team lands seventh in Tampa

Junior Becky Allen shot a two-round score of 161 to land 12th place of 48 golfers at the Snowbird Intercollegiate hosted by Northern Illinois in Tampa, Fla., last Friday.

Allen had rounds of 80 and 81, which led the Westerwinds to a seventh-place finish and a team score of 696 (352, 344). Sophomore Jennifer Holt finished tied for 33rd place with a score of 176 (85, 91) and only one stroke off of Holt was freshman teammate Lindsay Wandrey in a tie for 35th place with rounds of 93 and 84.

Sophomore Jenna Keane finished 43 with a score of 185 (97, 88), and freshman Nerissa Hetzel finished 46 with a 191 (94, 97).

Freshmen Claire Gursh and Elizabeth Fernandes as well as junior Maggie Henke each competed in the tournament as individuals. Gursh finished tied for 30 with a score of 173 (84, 89), Fernandes tied for 40 with a 180 (96, 84) and Henke finished in 45 with a score of 188 (101, 87).

Northern Illinois won the tournament with a score of 619. Northeastern State, Indianapolis, Cleveland State, Seminole CC and Weber State finished in that order behind the Huskies. Southern Illinois-Edwardsville finished behind the Westerwinds with a score of 702.

Western women's golf will continue spring competition, March 30-31, at the Saluki Invitational in Makanda, Ill.
