Disability Awareness Week

Disability Awareness Week begins Monday and extends through Saturday under the title "Attitudes are the REAL disability."

Students, faculty and the community are invited to attend any and all of the events, which kick off Monday with remarks from Provost Jack Thompson in Horrabin Hall Room 1. A student/employee panel will lead a discussion from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

On Tuesday, accessible campus housing (10 a.m., Grote Hall entrance), Hanson Field (11 a.m.) and an accessible climbing tower (4 to 5:30 p.m., Horn Field) will be open for tours.

A faculty awareness seminar will take place Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. in the University Union Lincoln Room, and from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Union DuSable Room, faculty and staff can review the accessibility of their Web sites.

The Donald S. Spencer Student Recreation Center will host Disability Awareness Day Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; the event's theme is accessible recreational activities. On Saturday, teams compete in the Wheelchair Basketball Tournament beginning at 10 a.m.
