Board of Directors openings
Issue date: 3/31/08 Section: Community Bulletins
The Western Illinois Area Agency on Aging is seeking individuals interested in planning for the needs of older adults in a 10-county area of western Illinois. Board members set policy and direction for the WIAAA and allocate more than $4 million in federal and state funds for senior programs. Openings currently exist in Bureau, Knox, LaSalle, McDonough and Mercer counties. Board meetings are conducted on the fourth Thursday of each month at the WIAAA offices in Rock Island. Mileage and lunch are furnished.
Potential members should be interested in programs for persons over 60 years of age. Actual involvement with such programs is a plus. The agency is seeking individuals currently serving on other boards and/or those with a background in business, but all interested persons are encouraged to apply. Interested parties should contact Janice M. Stille at 1-800-322-1051 for an application.
The WIAAA is a non-profit corporation created for the purpose of improving the quality of life for older Americans. The specific objectives of the agency are threefold: to enable older adults to live in their own homes as long as possible with appropriate supportive services; to remove individual and social barriers to economic and personal independence for older persons including the provision of opportunities for employment and volunteer activities; and to act as an advocate for older persons in developing community resources for the aged throughout the 10-county area while providing a comprehensive service network. Counties included in the agency's service area are Bureau, Henderson, Henry, Knox, LaSalle, McDonough, Mercer, Putnam, Rock Island and Warren.
