The inaugural "Taste of Macomb" will launch Saturday, April 5, from 5 to 10 p.m. in Chandler Park. The event will give students the chance to sample food from 15 different vendors, including Il Spazio, Hong Kong Express, Pagliai's Pizza, Dominos and Salsarita's Fresh Cantina. The other vendors will include Western Illinois University student organizations.
Western's Student Government Association, along with other major student organizations, is hosting the event.
"I originally brought up the idea," said SGA Vice President Joe Lanane. "I always felt it was SGA's responsibility to put on some sort of programming that would bring all students together."
In addition to smells of a variety of food, Chandler Park will be filled the sounds of musicians competing in a battle of the bands, put on by the Music Business Association and the University Union Board.
"We want to show the community we are able to put on such an event," Lanane said.
Despite the possibility of rain, Lanane and others are hoping the event will produce a large number of attendants. "Taste" is scheduled during "Friends & Siblings Weekend" and has been geared to appeal to all ages - as evident by SGA hosting a face-painting booth.
"The first measure of success was registration of businesses and organizations," Lanane said. "Everyone is familiar with the metropolis 'taste' events, so we'll see if the people come out."
For Western students, Go West Transit will be running a special "Taste of Macomb" route that will circle campus before dropping passengers off at Chandler Park.

Thanks SGA for bringing this event to Macomb. It is amazing to see all the hard work SGA has done to bring this event to not only WIU's campus, but also involving the entire Macomb community. (Continued…)
