Back in Dec., I wrote a letter regarding the fight to keep the "Westerwinds" name. In the letter, I stated I had filed a complaint with the Dept. of Education's Office for Civil Rights regarding possible violations of Title IX by WIU. Since then, I've been contacted by the OCR. They have enough information to investigate WIU for Title IX violations. For the OCR to conduct an investigation, they must determine there's enough information showing there is or may be discrimination.

They have determined this is the case with WIU. An OCR investigation is a serious matter. If WIU is found to be in violation of Title IX, they will need to enact steps in order to be in compliance with the law. If they don't, they can be punished. Federal funding could be withheld. Title IX was passed almost 36 years ago, yet WIU is still not complying with this federal law. It's time they stop discriminating against women. If it takes an OCR investigation to insure that, so be it.

I would like to know what these violations were. it might help your case more if you let people know what kind of information you are seeking

What does Title IX have to do with rolling all WIU sports team names to Leathernecks? You imply a connection in your letter (which is GREATLY lacking in detail), and you also imply that an investigation means that WIU is in violation. (Continued…)
