Lately, watching the interactions between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton feels like sitting through an episode of "The Hills." Both candidates seem to be caught in an endless cycle of senseless bickering, leaving voters wondering how much more to tolerate.

The most recent verbal spar between Obama and Clinton stemmed from Obama noting that citizens in rural Pennsylvania "cling" to guns, religion and anti-immigrant beliefs. He went on to say they were "bitter," and Clinton licked her fangs and went right for the jugular.

She called Obama "an elitist" and once again touted how out-of-touch he is with the American people. Yawn. Meanwhile, Obama responded by saying he worded the statement incorrectly, did not mean to offend anyone and alluded to Clinton being Annie Oakley.

The whole issue is nothing more than one last, desperate action by Clinton to shine negative attention on Obama and reflect it from herself. By focusing on Obama's use of the word bitter, she is hoping to win the Pennsylvania primary and stop voters from realizing she made $100 million last year and truly has no idea what being poor is like. She is out-of-touch, no matter how many times she went shooting with "pappy."

CNN.com is referring to the exchange as "Bittergate," proving that once again, a totally irrelevant issue has been blown out of proportion by the media and Clinton. Obama seems to be taking the high road after firing some harsh words but appears to understand the futility and foolishness of warring over words.

After all, elite is only a word. By definition, an elitist believes individuals with power, talent and money should be in charge. Using that definition, Clinton compared Obama to almost every president in this country's history. Burn? We think not.

If we are lucky, the bickering will end soon and both candidates will continue debating the issues voters truly care about - the slumping economy, ongoing war and increasing cost of living. The hostility is dividing the Democrats and frustrating voters. With more than two months before the Democratic National Convention, voters should demand the candidates act their age and discuss serious problems facing this country.

Otherwise, we might as well devote our attention to LC and Heidi.
