'Winds look to qualify for Summit Championship

Westerwinds vs. South Dakota State
The Jackrabbits currently have a record of 1-8, with a 0-3 mark in the Summit League. South Dakota State's lone victory came in a 6-1 decision over Wartburg (Iowa).
The two teams have played three common opponents within the league. The Jackrabbits have lost to IUPUI (2-5), Southern Utah (0-7) and UMKC (0-7), while the Westerwinds have defeated IUPUI and UMKC by 4-0 scores but lost to Southern Utah by a score of 4-2.
The Westerwinds defeated SDSU, Feb. 24, 6-1, in Omaha, Neb. Western swept the doubles matches, including a win at No. 1 doubles from junior Kim Lennartsson and sophomore Stephanie Baumer.
Lennartsson (No. 1), sophomore Yana Meinert (No. 3), sophomore Courtney Brooks (No. 4) and Baumer (No. 5) each won their respective singles matches.
Westerwinds vs. Oakland
The Grizzlies enter the Summit League cluster with a record of 4-10. Oakland is currently ranked fifth in the Summit League standings with a record of 2-2. The two conference wins have come against IUPUI and UMKC and lost matches against Southern Utah and IPFW.
The Grizzlies are led by junior Lindsay Grimmer, who has a record of 5-9 at the No. 1 singles position. The Troy, Mich., native earned he Summit League Player of the Week after picking up Oakland's lone win against Dayton.
Western was able to defeat Oakland last year, 4-2, in Rochester, Mich., in order to qualify for the conference tournament. After sweeping the doubles matches, the Westerwinds received singles wins from Lennartsson, Meinert and Brooks.
Westerwinds vs. Oral Roberts
Oral Roberts sits in a tie atop the Summit League standings with a 4-0 record in league play. The Golden Eagles currently have a 5-8 record overall after dropping their previous match to No. 50 Tulsa. Oral Roberts owns league wins over IUPUI (4-0), UMKC (4-0), Southern Utah (4-1) and Centenary (4-0).
The Westerwinds squared off against the Golden Eagles twice in 2007, falling in both matches. Western dropped a 7-0 match to Oral Roberts, March 31, in Kansas City, Mo., and later lost to the Golden Eagles, 4-0, in the conference championship semifinals.
Westerwinds vs. IPFW
The Mastodons are the other women's team that is tied for first with Oral Roberts in the Summit League standings with a 4-0 league record. IPFW has won 11 straight matches to improve its overall record to 16-7.
The Mastodons have already recorded league wins over IUPUI (4-2), UMKC (4-1), Southern Utah (4-3) and Oakland (5-2).
The previous match between the Westerwinds and IPFW was March 25, 2006, with the Mastodons escaping Macomb with a 6-1 victory.

This weekend will determine if Western will head right back to Fort Wayne, Ind., to compete in the Summit League championships, April 25-26.
