Do girls really need forever to get ready to go out, or is their preparation just overkill?

It's all necessary

Going out to a party or to the bars takes a lot of prep time. Girls want to look stunning and irresistible when they go out. It's all a competition.

Every girl, while standing in front of her mirror putting on mascara or lipstick, is constantly wondering if everything is just perfect. Are her eyebrows plucked? Does the foundation make her look too orange? All these thoughts and a million more are running around in her brain like a hamster on its wheel. They go nowhere and only end up tiring her out after a while.

And while these thoughts run their races, she is going through outfit after outfit to find the one that matches just perfectly, fits all her curves and makes her look the most alluring. As I said, it's all a competition. Beauty is said to be only skin deep, but even the most intellectual girl cares about how she looks.

We want to be the prettiest girl at the ball, so to speak. And that means we have to out-dress every other girl out there. Most girls go with low-cut v-neck tops to accentuate their breasts because, after all, that's the first things guys notice.

Now, we dress up so nicely to not only outdo other girls, but to get the guys to notice us. We want to feel beautiful in their eyes. We want to be admired for that, if only for a night or two a week. It's a great self-esteem booster when a guy (hot or not) compliments you on how great you look and asks to either buy you a drink or for a dance. It's like we're Cinderella transformed from cleaning wench into a stunning princess catching everyone's eye. And it's that moment that requires us to take so much time to prepare.

While guys can get away with just slapping on some designer-name T-shirt, spraying on deodorant or cologne and quickly gelling their hair, girls have this need to start over from scratch. At least two hours before going out, a girl will hop in the shower and proceed to wash off all the day's grime. Then comes choosing the outfit, putting it on, applying the makeup, blow-drying and styling her hair, a few final touch-ups and voilá, she's complete.

So guys, now you kind of know what's going on inside a girl's head and why she takes so long to get ready. You don't really have the right to complain about it.

We do all this to get your attention. We want that gratification, whether we admit it out loud or not. What if we didn't care about our appearance as much when we went out? What if we showed up in turtlenecks or hoodies and baggy jeans? What if we never put on any makeup or fixed our hair?

Keep those questions in mind the next time you're complaining while your girlfriend is in her third hour of getting ready.
