The Homecoming theme for 2008 is ..............

The University Union Board recently decided on a theme for Homecoming 2008. According to Homecoming Chair Samantha Neal, the board decided on "Rocky Loves the '90s."
"We had a couple of different ideas, like a movie theme, but we kind of figured that was too much like Hollywood," Neal said. "We wanted it to be like a film festival and, like, sell popcorn."
Neal added another possible idea was the theme "Wild Wild West."
"We didn't think with the (shootings) and stuff that would go over well," Neal said.
The '90s theme was chosen primarily because Western Illinois University students could relate to all of the themes, pop culture and other concepts associated with the 1990s.
"A lot of people at Western were born then, and that's when we grew up," Neal said, adding that students could reminisce over shows like "Saved by the Bell" and "Beverly Hills 90210."
With a new theme comes some changes. Rather than using the sandwich boards for "Deck the Campus," chalked advertisements will add color to campus. Neal said participants will be allotted a certain amount of sidewalk space where they will be able to advertise when and where events will occur related to Homecoming.
Neal added the UUB is currently looking for new and unique ideas for events for next year, and anyone with ideas should contact her or the UUB. Projected dates for homecoming activities are: Oct. 11 - Spirit Night; Oct. 12 - Boat Regatta and Chalk the Town; Oct. 16 - Yell Like Hell; and Oct 18 - Parade, Tailgating and the Homecoming game.
