It is appalling to realize that out of all the great music stores in Macomb, readers picked Wal-Mart as the best place to buy a CD. The albums are censored and the prices are average at best. One greatly overlooked store for your musical needs is in a tiny little building on Adams Street called The Phoenix.

Right there The Phoenix already has something going for it: location. Students can take a short walk and pick up a CD by just barely stepping off campus. This is extremely handy to students without a car, or someone just looking for a short walk and something to do - although the walk back from the store would be a lot more enjoyable if Discmans were still popular.

The Phoenix has more going for it than just its close location to campus. The biggest reason why The Phoenix should not be overlooked is its low price for albums, especially for new releases. For the week that albums come out, The Phoenix often sells the new discs for around $11, sometimes as little as $10. This reason alone is shocking that The Phoenix is often overlooked, seeing as how one main complaint among music buyers is that CDs cost too much.

As far as extras go, The Phoenix also features a fair amount of band and music posters, as well as a dark room dedicated to glow-in-the-dark posters. There is even a small record section to skim through as well. Admittedly, the used CD selection in The Phoenix isn't as deep as Capitol Music, but it still beats Rock N Records. Rock N Records is more of a store for apparel, as it offers the best selection of band shirts, patches and stickers out of any other stores in town. A third choice, Capitol Music on the Square, features the best used CD selection as well as dealing in used video games and movies.

To be fair, all three of these stores are an excellent place to go buy music. Band shirts, as well as other items, are nonexistent or scarce in The Phoenix when compared to the other music stores in Macomb, but for simply picking up new albums, The Phoenix has the competition beat with its prime location and great prices.

So, next time a big release comes out, save a few bucks and enjoy a walk in the coming spring weather by stopping in The Phoenix.
