'Necks win shootout with Coe

Junior catcher Drew Laidig blasted two home runs on Thursday, leading the Leathernecks to a 12-8 victory against Coe College. Coe College (21-15), a Division 3 school, knocked around Western's (11-26, 4-8 Summit League) pitchers in search of the upset. "(Our offense) came ready to play today," said coach Stan Hyman. Late rally not enough for 'Winds against Iowa

The inability to score late in games has hindered the 'Winds softball team in three previous games and did so again against Iowa on Wednesday, as they fell 2-0. Western (8-32 6-10 Summit) could not capitalize with two runners in scoring position in the bottom of the seventh inning and the Hawkeyes held on for the close victory. (0) comments
